Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and prepare for towing underground
- Access, interpret and apply towing in underground metalliferous mines documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- Identify and address potential risks hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
- Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- Select appropriate type of towing equipment according to job type and specifications, and check equipment for serviceability and rectify or report any faults
- Communicate with other equipment operators and personnel using approved communication methods
- Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
- Ensure area is well ventilated before entry into work area
- Shackle and hitch vehicle/equipment
- Carry out equipment pre-start checks and start-up procedures
- Identify towing/lifting points on vehicle/equipment
- Select suitable towing equipment for type and size of vehicle/equipment
- Hitch towing equipment to vehicle/equipment using approved method
- Confirm security and balance of hitch prior to commencing tow
- Tow and unhitch vehicle/equipment
- Tow vehicle, observing safe driving conventions, and following site procedures for towing
- Continually monitor hazards and risks, and ensure safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment
- Monitor condition of ground and hitch and adjust towing accordingly
- Proceed to destination using the safest and most direct route
- Unhitch vehicle/equipment in authorised area
- Carry out post-operational procedures
